Accessibility and the Right to Risk – OM31

How can disability, accessibility and risk management all meet while ensuring the challenge remains? Who has a disability? What does the ADA require? How can you legally sort out who can participate and who should not? Janet will explore these issues and provide how-tos for managing it all. Audience Q & A encouraged.

1. Understand how accessibility standards apply to challenge course technology within program settings.
2. Understand (and be prepared to explain to their staff) why their organization is legally required, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), to provide equal access to programs and activities for all individuals who are qualified to participate, including for those who have disabilities.
3. Understand how Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC) can be used as an effective risk management tool: a) to meet ADA access to program requirements and b) as an “across the board” means to run a quality operation.
