This emerging approach influences developmental outcomes for youth and relies on research in resilience through ABC to design program design, including the use of high and low ropes elements. This workshop will highlight the ABC program at Crossnore School & Children’s Home in Western NC, which serves children, families, and young adults receiving foster care and mental health treatment services.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will be able to describe trauma theory, including resilience and the difference between trauma, adversity, and chronic and toxic stress.
2. Attendees will gain a knowledge of mind-body connection, trauma-related symptoms, and attachment relationships, and how those relate to ABC programming.
3. Attendees will have a working model of trauma-responsive Adventure Based Counseling to replicate in other areas.
