We will look at how a wire rope functions as part of an overall system in aerial adventure structures. Sag, Tension, Support Systems, Elongation, Temperature, Relative Rope Length, Safety Factors and the non linearity of wire rope stresses will all be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • How modifications to length of cable affect sag, tension and safety factors. These modifications include physical changes, temperature, and support conditions.
  • How wire rope is resilient in system failures due to it’s load shedding in a relaxation of the cable.
  • How wire ropes act non-linearly and how overloading the cable affects the safety factors of the cable.
