We’re looking for new team members!
Have you ever wondered what it takes to make the ACCT International Conference and Exposition a success? Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of Conference Work Group (CWG) volunteers works year-round to create an incredible experience for attendees. From workshop and exhibitor logistics to volunteer coordination and marketing, the Event Team plays a crucial role in shaping the annual conference and exposition.
Now, we’re looking for a new team member to join us! But don’t just take our word for it. We asked current CWG members about why they joined, what they love, and why YOU should consider applying.
Why join the CWG? Hear from the Event Team!
Paul Bland – Workshop Coordinator: “I enjoy having the opportunity to serve the challenge course community that has helped me become who I am today. Being on the CWG has helped me network with more people — it’s not uncommon for me to bump into someone in the field I met through this work! If you’re considering joining, know that you don’t have to have all the answers at first. The CWG has one of the best volunteer onboarding programs I’ve been a part of.”
Billy Hager-DeMyer – CWG Coordinator: “I love being able to give back to the community that developed me into the leader I am today. Besides professional development — event and group management, networking, industry trends — I’ve gained an incredible sense of community. If you’re thinking about joining, be a Yellow Hat! It’s a great way to get a taste of behind-the-scenes work.”
Lara Kreuter – Workshop Coordinator: “I started as a Yellow Hat and wanted to get more involved. This team keeps me connected to industry trends and information while also providing a strong community. One thing I’ve learned? There’s a lot to take in — don’t be afraid to ask questions! We want everyone on the same page and will support you along the way.”
Jenn Roetman – Service Crew Coordinator: “I joined because you don’t say ‘no’ to Leigh! But really, I wanted to serve the association and invest in others. I love the camaraderie of the CWG and seeing how individual strengths come together to create an amazing event. I also enjoy the challenge of planning Service Crew schedules — I’m a sucker for a good Google Sheet!”
Annika Spriggs – Digital Coordinator: “I started in this role with mentorship from another digital coordinator, which ultimately helped me transition into my dream job. If you have a passion you want to highlight on your resume or an industry you want to explore, volunteering here is a great way to gain hands-on experience while contributing to something meaningful.”
Courtney Terilli – Workshop Coordinator: “I’m a behind-the-scenes person — I love seeing all the moving pieces come together at the conference. If you’re considering applying, just do it! If you don’t get it, apply again! The CWG is a family, and it’s a great way to give back to an industry I’ve dedicated my career to.”
Mark Zmudy – CWG Coordinator: “This was my first year, so my role was to listen, learn, and explore how everything works. I wanted a higher level of engagement with the conference, and I’ve gained so much already — professional experience, networking, and friendships. My advice? Go at your own pace while also working to meet deadlines. It’s a highly engaging and rewarding experience!”
What’s the time commitment?
CWG members typically spend 1-6 hours per week on conference-related tasks, depending on the time of year and specific role. Leading up to the conference and expo, time commitments increase as final details come together.
What kind of work will you do?
CWG members are involved in:
- Digital Marketing and PR: Social media, web and app management, exhibitor/sponsor outreach, photography/videography, and slideshow development.
- Logistics and Operations: Onsite planning and scheduling, registration support, technology/room support, packing/unpacking equipment, and processing evaluations.
- Networking and Community Building: Connecting with industry professionals and helping others grow by planning and executing special events and other activities.
- Service Crew Planning: Recruiting and training volunteers, scheduling and coordinating volunteer shifts, providing onsite support, and monitoring communication channels.
- Workshop Coordination: Vetting sessions, assigning CEU values, scheduling workshops, communicating with presenters, and managing event spaces.
